Local Writing For Wellbeing: Nature

Our second Writing For Wellbeing workshop was on nature writing – a joyous and inspiring subject to write about in Pembrokeshire.

Lorna brought a small tree to the session, some rain, river and sea water, sand, shale, pebbles and mud. We gave these focussed attention and wrote about the feelings they inspired, using all our senses to play with them. Contrast and comparison surprised us, for instance, the three types of water were dramatically different.

One of the readings Lorna chose was about Pembrokeshire, by Ursula Martin, who is coming to Chapter One on April 7th, as she walks Wales.

Tickets are £8, with £5 off her books and available here.

We looked at a couple of poems from the extraordinary Victorian poet Gerard Manley Hopkins, which need to be read aloud, and like impressionistic paintings of sound. We chatted about his clear influence on Dylan Thomas.

Lots of great feedback and lots of useful recommendations from all lovely writers who came. Next session: writing the senses.
